Capital Chess

Capital Chess on the iqpi.io platform is chess online where the winner is whoever delivers checkmate, and if there is no mate — whoever has more points for captured pieces. A game against a live opponent or against the computer: free or for money with a Buy-in fee in IQPIC, plus prize tournaments in this discipline.

Below — how to create a game, set piece values, how the mode differs from Classic, how points and draws are counted.

The game runs in the personal account (lk): creation, lobby, and board. Instructions are in this help section (do not use the old public rules pages).

In the chess creation form, “Winner determination method”:

  • “Capital Chess” — this article;
  • “Classic” — normal checkmate → Chess.

By default the form selects Capital Chess.

Short UI copy: “The winner is whoever checkmates or scores more points”. The king is not captured — as in normal chess.

Swedish is a separate team format: Swedish.

How to create a game vs a human

  1. Open /lk → chess vs human (or /game/create → chess).
  2. On /game/create/chess, under “Winner determination method”, select “Capital Chess”.
  3. Set “Piece values” (see below) or enable “Random”.
  4. Set the modern timer (classical timer is unavailable for Capital Chess).
  5. Choose game type:
    • “Unrated game”;
    • “Rated game” — active balance and Buy-in.
  6. “Create game”/game/chess/{hash}.
  7. Wait for an opponent or invite via challenge / link.

Before sitting down, the opponent sees the game conditions (win method and values table; with random values — that they will be set at start).

Fee details: Rated games.

Playing against the computer

  1. /game/create/chess?computer=1.
  2. “Capital Chess”, piece values (or random), Stockfish level.
  3. Create the game.

Vs bot — always an unrated game; you cannot offer a draw to the bot.

Piece values

The “Piece values” block appears when Capital Chess is selected.

PieceSetting
Pawn, knight, bishop, rook, queenValue 0–10
KingAlways 0 (cannot change)

Rules:

  • at least one piece must have value ≥ 1, otherwise creation fails;
  • the form has default values (pawn 1, knight 3, bishop 7, rook 5, queen 9 — see the UI for current numbers);
  • “Random” — values are random before the game starts (the lobby may not show exact numbers until the start).

For each capture, the captured piece’s value is added to the player’s score. On the board, pieces are shown with these values (icons with points).

How the winner is determined

SituationResult
CheckmateThe player who delivered mate wins — regardless of points
Stalemate, accepted draw, end on total game time, etc. without mateWhoever has more points wins; with equal points — draw
Move limit expired (flag in modern)Loss on time; points do not decide
ResignLoss for the resigning player

Platform wording: the winner is by mate; if no mate — by points.

During the game, “Points” are visible on the side; the result window also shows both sides’ points.

Timer

For Capital Chess only “Modern” is available:

ParameterMeaning
“Move limit”Seconds per move
“Game time”Total time reserve

The classical timer (increment, handicap, start from Black’s move, etc.) is only for “Classic”. UI hint: the classical timer type is available in checkmate mode.

There are no named bullet/blitz/rapid presets.

Rated game and Buy-in

Same as classic chess:

  1. “Rated game” + Buy-in amount in IQPIC.
  2. Limit — by level and balance.
  3. Win — you receive the opponent’s fee; loss — you give yours; draw — no Buy-in transfer.

Details: Rated games, Balance management.

Skill rating and level for Capital Chess are tracked in a separate category (capital_chess), not classic chess.

Typical scenarios

A. Game where “mate beats points”

  1. Capital Chess, your own values (e.g. expensive queen).
  2. Play for mate; when exchanging pieces, watch the score in case of stalemate or draw on time.

B. Random values

  1. Enable “Random”.
  2. At start the server fixes the values — use the piece icons on the board.

C. Rated on Buy-in

  1. Active balance → “Rated game” + Buy-in.
  2. Win by mate or by points — opponent’s IQPIC on your balance.

D. Tournament

  1. Catalog → Capital Chess → register.
  2. Or create your own tournament with this mode.

FAQ

How does Capital Chess differ from “just chess”?

Mate decides immediately; without mate, the higher capture-points score wins. Pieces are given values.

Can I win on points alone if the opponent checkmated?

No. Mate beats points.

Why can’t I offer a draw?

In Capital Chess the offer is available when points are equal.

Why is there no classical timer?

It is available only for the “Classic” win method.

Is the rating shared with Classic?

No — a separate Capital Chess category.

Where is the room?

/game/chess/{hash} — the same path as classic chess; the mode is set by room settings.
