Chess

Chess on the iqpi.io platform is classic chess online in the browser: a game against a live opponent or against the computer. You can play for free or play chess for money in IQPIC tokens — a rated game with a Buy-in fee (winnings go to your balance, then withdrawal). Online chess tournaments with a prize pool are also available.

Below — how to create a game, how Classic differs from Capital Chess, which timers are available, how draw and resign work, and where to view rating.

The game runs in the personal account (lk): game creation, board, and lobby.

What this mode is

Game goalWin by checkmate (normal draws and losses on time — by chess rules)
OpponentLive player or Stockfish (bot)
Game typeUnrated or Rated (with Buy-in in IQPIC)
TournamentsYes — “Chess” discipline in the tournament catalog

In the chess creation form there are two ways to win:

  • “Classic” — this article (normal checkmate);
  • “Capital Chess” — a separate mode with points for pieces → Capital Chess.

By default the form selects Capital Chess. For classic chess, explicitly switch the win method to “Classic”.

Swedish (Bughouse) is a team format with several boards; it is created separately: Swedish.

How to create a game vs a human

  1. Open /lk → in the chess block choose play vs human (or /game/create → chess).
  2. On /game/create/chess, under “Winner determination method”, select “Classic”.
  3. Set the timer (see below).
  4. Choose “Game type”:
  • “Unrated game” — no IQPIC fee;
  • “Rated game” — requires an active balance and a Buy-in.
  1. Click “Create game” → the room /game/chess/{hash} opens.
  2. Wait for an opponent from the waiting list or invite via challenge / link.

Details on the fee and settlement: Rated games.

Challenging a player

From an avatar, the online table, or a profile you can “Challenge” — chess creation opens with that opponent already set.

Playing against the computer

  1. /lk → chess vs bot, or /game/create/chess?computer=1.
  2. Select “Classic”, timer, and Stockfish level.
  3. Create the game and play immediately (opponent is the bot).

Vs bot the game is always unrated: Buy-in is unavailable, and you cannot offer a draw to the bot.

Timers

There are no named “bullet / blitz / rapid” presets — you set the time yourself.

Modern (default)

ParameterMeaning
“Move limit”Seconds per move (3–60 s)
“Game time”Total game time reserve (1–60 min)

Classical

Available when the win method “Classic” is selected (for Capital Chess — modern only).

Typical fields:

  • seconds added per move (increment);
  • thinking time;
  • handicap for the opponent / yourself;
  • when the timer starts (“From Black’s move” / “When everyone is ready”).

On classical clocks there is lag compensation: when time is deducted, network delay is taken into account (adaptively by connection quality) so you do not lose extra fractions of a second because of ping.

For each executed premove, a 0.1 s penalty is deducted from your remaining time.

Chess for money: rated game and Buy-in

To play chess for money online on iqpi.io, create a rated Classic game — the Buy-in fee in IQPIC is taken from the table, and the winner receives the opponent’s tokens on their balance.

  1. Game type → “Rated game”.
  2. Enter Buy-in in IQPIC (nearby reference amounts in USDT / GRAM).
  3. You cannot enter more than your level limit or more than your balance.
  4. Both the creator and the player who sits at the table must have enough IQPIC.

After the game:

  • win — you receive the opponent’s fee;
  • loss — you give yours;
  • draw — Buy-in is not transferred (as in the general rated-game rules).

Full breakdown and the “earn with chess” scenario: Rated games. Top-up and withdrawal of IQPIC: Balance management.

Without an active balance, the rated-game option is unavailable (label “Unavailable when balance is inactive”).

During the game

ActionHow
MovesClick / drag pieces; premoves are supported. On the classical timer, a premove costs a 0.1 s penalty (see above)
ResignResign button → confirm → loss
DrawOffer after your move (on the opponent’s turn); accept / decline; repeat with a cooldown of about 10 half-moves
ChatRoom chat on the game page
Move soundSystem move sound
PGNAfter the game and from battle history
RematchOpens creation of a new game with a challenge to the same opponent

Additionally on the board:

  • board scale;
  • change layout position;
  • auto-queen (automatic promotion to queen) and manual piece choice on promotion.

On a narrow screen (roughly up to tablet) the board switches to a vertical layout — the same features.

Anti-cheating and connection

If during a game you leave the tab / lose focus, an anti-cheating warning may appear. On network loss — an offline window; after recovery the game syncs. Closing the tab during a game may prompt the browser for confirmation.

Rating and level

Do not confuse three different things:

ConceptWhat it is
Rated gameA game with IQPIC Buy-in
Skill ratingScore for the Chess category (chess)
LevelGrows with rated wins; limits maximum Buy-in

The Stockfish rating in bot settings is computer strength, not your skill rating and not FIDE Elo.

The Capital Chess category is tracked separately. Lichess verification in the profile is a separate profile option, not an iqpi.io rating.

Leaders: the public leaders section on the site. Profile: Profile.

Online chess tournaments and prize pool

In the catalog /tournaments you can join and organize online chess tournaments (Chess discipline, classic checkmate): including prize chess tournaments with an IQPIC prize pool and for-money tournaments with a registration fee.

From the chess form you can go to tournament creation (tournament draft mode). Swedish is not created in the tournament catalog.
